Let's build some roads! I want to have one bypass around the residentials zones and one bypass around the farm lands. The bypasses will come together at the roundabout at the entrance of town and from there traffic can reach the highway.
Halfway through the construction of the second bypass, I realise that I don't have enough money to execute my oh-so-amazing plan. At the time, I thought it'd be a good idea to pause the game while I was laying down my roads, but that means my town, while profitable, isn't generating income.
The residential bypass is almost done, while construction of the agricultural bypass has barely started. I accidentially built both of them using one-way roads, I disconnected my drain pipe and my water pumping station from the power grid, and garbage trucks can't reach the landfill anymore. I knew there was a reason I put the game on pause. I need to start collecting taxes though, or my roads will never get finished. I quickly restore power to the water works and lay down a service road for the garbage trucks. Let the money roll in!
And then this happens.
Great, now I'll need to spend 12,000 on a fire station. In the meantime, houses are in high demand and I'm desperate for more citizens. Well, more tax income, actually. Same difference. I don't want to spend money on sewage pipes, so I find that one little spot of available zoning that has pipes already. Between the landfill, the drain pipes, and the industry, it's without a doubt the least desirable part of town, but I can't afford to worry about that right now.
New tax payers citizens are moving into the city, the budget is looking good, and a couple of minutes later I have enough money for a fire station. While I'm building it, some unlucky store owners get robbed.
No more than three seconds later, all hell breaks loose.
Oh no! That'll cost me another 12,000! I mean: my poor citizens are getting robbed. I need to help them. Yeah...
The new fire station also draws more power than I can currently provide, so I have to deal with brownouts, too. No way am I going to spend 6,000 on a windmill right now, so I just up the electricity budget a little.
All I can do now is wait until I have enough money to build a police station and hope my fledgling town doesn't succumb to crime before then.
My luck seems to turn, however. I hit the next milestone and I'm awarded 20,000 (or something thereabout). I immediately build a police station and throw in a wind mill for good measure and because I basically have to.
While the police is patrolling all over town, crime is going away. One neighbourhood remains problematic, though.
They also have a garbage problem.
This is the only neighbourhood that is connected to the road before the roundabout. Consequently, you can only reach the neighbourhood from the highway. Services that want to go there have to leave town, get onto the highway, leave the highway, and get back into town. As it turns out, that's not a particularly efficient set-up. Mental note: just remove that neighbourhood once you get the chance. Don't replace it with residentials or anything.
Everything is stable again and I can finally continue building. Instead of finishing the bypass, I find a nice, fertile spot of land and zone my first agricultural industry.
Industry is in high demand right now, so it doesn't take long for a group of farmers to take up their ploughs. The future is green!
Hi William, it's a joy to play this game the way we agreed to play it. However I've earned a lot of money right now with my city (200.000), it is not very beautiful and the area's are not well separated. A lot of work to do! I'm making screenshots all the time, so I can show you the history of Greenvalley.
